The City of Sails
Auckland is famously called the City of Sails since it has a waterside location. This is the biggest city in New Zealand with breathtaking views, nice scenery, beautiful beaches, great food and dining, and a favorite location for movie shoots. The City is situated in between the waters of Manukau and Waitemata Harbours. It has an enchanting rainforest that is visible on the surrounding hills and best witnessed via aerial view.
History and Culture of Auckland
The Maori, who are the original sailors who settled in New Zealand, called the place as Tamaki Makau Rau. It means a maiden having one hundred lovers. Many conquerors desired the place for its natural riches. But through the years, many migrants settled in this place which contributed to the totality of the Polynesian population. When you walk through the city of Auckland, it is best to do it with a local guide who would help you understand and appreciate the beauty and culture of the city.
