Fingers Contemporary New Zealand Jewellery

This is a worldwide fact that however beautiful a lady maybe, yet her beauty is enhanced only when adorned with beautiful jewellery. Fingers jewelers began in 1974. The aim was to create a gallery space dedicated to contemporary jewellery, where it could be exhibited and sold.

The paramount concern of Fingers was the selection and presentation of work of the highest standard, setting- up and staffing the gallery themselves to ensure their aims were achieved. Often new work was launched in a show and openings of one- person, group and theme shows became regular events; show- casing the developing local contemporary jewellery scene.

Shows like "Bone" and "Paua Dreams" in 1981 explored indigenous contemporary jewellery. The importance of Fingers as a gallery of contemporary New Zealand jewellery was recognized by the QEII Arts Council when it assisted a move to the larger space it has occupied opposite the Auckland City Art Gallery in Kitchener St since 1987.
