Sports in Auckland
Auckland wouldn't be called the City of Sails if sailing is not one of the top activities here. It was in the year 1999 and 2003 when the city hosted a sailing contest. Netball is also one of the oldest games founded in Auckland. It was in year 1911 when it was introduced. Currently, the Auckland has 9,000 players in different leagues.
The city also boasts of its Eden Park which is used for rugby and cricket sports. It was in this stadium where the inaugural of the Rugby World Cup was held which was in the year 1987.
Other Sports in Auckland
Though Rugby is the most famous game in Auckland, Soccer, Tennis and Racing have also gained popularity. Soccer came to fame in the year 1970s and calls North Harbour Stadium its home while Tennis is a famous summer sport.
With Racing, Auckland held its firs race in the year 1842 in Epsom. Several noteworthy places include Pukekohe for Formula One racing and Alexandra Park for Auckland's Trotting Club.
