The Auckland Zoo

If you want to enjoy and have fun, just visit the Auckland Zoo.  Here is where you can experience the awesome beauty of different exotic and native animals as well as the fantastic eco system of New Zealand.

Located in Western Springs, Auckland Zoo is the primary zoological garden in Auckland. This zoo was opened on December of 1922. It is currently home to 1300 animals. It was only in 1930 when a large collection of the entire animal zoo came in under the supervision of the zoological society. By the year 1950s, chimpanzees were purchased. They were then one of the top attractions in the zoo since they conduct tea parties for the amazement of the public.

The Auckland Zoo Animals

The Auckland Zoo has several animals categorized as Amphibians, Mammals, Birds and reptile.

Some of the not so common and must see animals featured at this zoo are : the African Crested Porcupine which is a nocturnal animal with long whiskers, the Asian Small Clawed Otter who lives in freshwater like streams, creeks and rivers, the Axolotl which is a Mexican walking fish, the Brazilian Agouti that lives on the forest floor and the Cotton Top Tamarin are inhabitants of wet tropical forests.
